Simple Hacks to Achieve Houseplant Heaven

Let’s face it: some people in this world are not blessed with a green thumb! Taking care of plants is not always an easy task; each individual plant has specific watering and temperature needs. Luckily for you, the Leafscape Green Team is well-versed in the needs of our botanical brethren. We may not be able to fix all of your floral follies, but we can give you some simple tips of the trade to advance the care of your plants!

It is a well-known issue: soil falling and washing out of the drainage hole at the bottom of your flower pot. Our solution? Simply place a coffee filter at the bottom of the flowerpot before filling. This will allow the right amount of water to drain from the soil, without excess soil washing out from the bottom staining your surfaces! You may also use a thin sponge or pinecones to achieve this. Not only will this save soil, it will also keep soil from making a mess.

“Brew” your botanicals!

No, not literally! Once you are done with your leftover coffee grinds for the day, scatter them around the base of the plant for added nutrients. This will help your plants grow and continue to enrich your soil. We suggest doing this about once a week for the most favorable outcome. This trick can be used on your indoor and outdoor plants.

When life gives you lemons, plant seeds!

Save your juiced lemon halves to sprout your seedlings! Once the seed has germinated, you can then plant the seedling in your preferred pot or garden while still in the lemon half. The rind will provide ample nutrients for the young plant to grow.

Do a rain dance for plants!

Watering your plants in the rain not only saves you the cost of water but also provides nutrients to your plants that tap water simply cannot. Sometimes, smaller plants are too frail for the outside elements. Instead, you can place an empty bucket outside before a storm and let water collect. Then use this water for your plants, while saving money!
